On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal/Nu-Metal band, Fatality, from the UK. Check out the interview and this amazing band!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We’re all really big video game fans. When we first started the band we didn’t have a name and we were all playing Mortal Kombat. When one of us won a fight the words “FATALITY” came up on the screen and Josh said ‘That would be a good name for a band’ and it just stuck.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Well we didn’t intend on playing any particular sub-genre of metal. I guess it just happened. We’re all huge metal fans no matter which sub-genre it is and I think our music reflects that. However, we do have more nu-metal sound, just with other influences thrown in there.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
So myself (Josh) and Gareth had been in a band together for years before Fatality started. When that band broke up we started this project with ex drummer Chris. He knew our bassist Matt from a long time ago through work so that’s how we got him involved. Then we recruited our current drummer Jordan through auditions in late 2019.
4. Each band member favourite band?
It’s hard to pin down just one band each. We all have multiple favourite bands spanning across loads of different styles of music. One of Gareth’s top bands would have to be Fear Factory. Matt really likes Volbeat. Jordan is a huge fan of As Blood Runs Black and one of Josh’s biggest inspirations is Jacoby from Papa Roach.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Pretty much all of our life events or the way we feel regarding certain subjects. We obviously draw inspiration from loads of different bands and artists that we look up to including the likes of Slipknot, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Machinehead etc but our main inspiration would just be the fact that we all really enjoy doing it. Writing music cohesively with your best friends is the best inspiration for what we do!
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was a live stream in July from Card Trick Music Studio in Essex. As we hadn’t been able to play a show with Jordan yet we decided to play a virtual gig for everyone that wanted to see what he could do. That video is still available on our Facebook page.
7. Where would you like to perform?
At the moment we would be over the moon to perform anywhere. Literally anywhere! We miss playing shows so much and we would take anything at the moment. If we could choose one festival it would be Chris Jericho’s rock and wrestling rager cruise. We’re all huge metal and wrestling fans so it would be the perfect combo and an absolute honour.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Anyone of our previously mentioned heroes would be absolutely amazing to share a stage with. Josh would love to perform with Jacoby from Papa Roach as that’s his idol musically and performance-wise. But we’ve also played alongside so many awesome bands local to us and we would love the opportunity to do that again soon.
9. Whom not?
Anyone who thinks themselves better than anyone else. Anyone who is unnecessarily rude to anyone else. Anyone who doesn’t respect other people for no good reason. This game is all about having fun and enjoying yourself with others so we have no time for people that make it miserable.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
So my (Josh’s) first show ever....I was a nervous wreck. I drunk 4 pints and had a few shots of whiskey before getting on stage in order to calm the nerves. Once I was up there I realised that it was so much of a rush and so much fun that I didn’t need the alcohol to get up there. Some nerves are good. The build up of adrenaline and that sweet release when you jump into action in the first track of the night is better than any drug available. That’s how to beat the nerves. Work with them, let that adrenaline build and once you’re up on stage there will be no better feeling in the world.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
As mentioned previously, bands like Slipknot, Fear Factory, Papa Roach, Linkin Park. These are bands that we all looked up to as kids and bands that we really wanted to emulate. That big stage feel!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We once had a fan try to lick a guitar if that counts? Don’t ask me why. I literally have no idea why you’d want to like skin particles and sweat of a piece of metal.
13. What do you think of your fans?
The world! They’re always so supportive of us. The always interact with us and have a chat and a laugh and most of all they’re always enjoying themselves at our shows.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site looks great. There’s plenty of content to get through, there’s music, interviews, bios, information about loads of artists. It’s a really cool thing that you’re doing.
15. Something to add?
Yeah for sure. We’re currently in the studio working on and recording new music. We have our latest single ‘Juggernaut’ as well as a music video available to stream right now. We have a brand new single ‘The Lesson’ coming out on October 5th and we also have loads more new tracks coming out in the following months. You can get all this stuff from our website www.fatalitybanduk.co.uk and make sure to follow us on our socials for all the updates on what we’re up to. Thanks for the interview guys. Peace!
